TELUS Drives Growth with SAP Taulia Payables Finance

TELUS is one of Canada’s largest telecommunications companies, managing a complex supplier base and high volumes of procurement activity across the country. As TELUS sought to improve working capital and free up cash flow to support frequent mergers and acquisitions, the company embarked on a digital transformation of its invoice and payment processes. Ashifa Jumani, Director of Procurement at TELUS, explains how SAP Taulia Payables Finance became central to that strategy.

“Taulia has been a partner for a long time. They've played an instrumental role in helping us roll out supply chain financing. Definitely the people stand out from the competition.”

Before: Challenges and opportunities

TELUS was receiving a high volume of paper and PDF invoices every month, processed through a manual, resource-heavy system of scanning and data entry. The result was high error rates, significant supplier call volumes, and limited ability to capture early payment discounts at scale. The company wanted to move to true electronic invoicing, onboard a large number of strategic suppliers quickly, and establish a working capital program that would increase Days Payable Outstanding while offering suppliers a compelling early payment option. TELUS also had an existing Dynamic Discounting program and wanted to expand into Supply Chain Finance to give suppliers more flexibility and scale the program further.

Why SAP Taulia

SAP Taulia’s supplier-centric solution provided a cost-free supplier portal with self-service capabilities for vendor master data, enabling rapid onboarding that surpassed TELUS’s early adoption targets. The streamlined implementation digitized invoice processing across the supplier base and created new opportunities for discount capture. With an existing Dynamic Discounting relationship already in place, expanding into Supply Chain Finance through SAP Taulia was a natural next step, giving TELUS a single solution for managing both programs and giving suppliers the choice of early payment terms that worked for them.

After: Value-driven results

The program enrolled a large portion of TELUS’s invited supplier base and captured significantly more in discounts over its first year than originally targeted, demonstrating strong supplier appetite and competitive early payment terms. The digitization of invoice processing reduced manual overhead and error rates, freeing up resources previously tied to scanning and data entry. For TELUS, the program delivered meaningful working capital improvement and increased Days Payable Outstanding, supporting the company’s broader strategy of funding growth through operational efficiency. Looking ahead, TELUS is exploring how artificial intelligence and advanced technology can be incorporated into the program to drive further improvements.
