Our culture

Shanghai is known for its particularly unique culture within China. Originally based on the Wuyue lifestyle from the nearby Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, Shanghai’s culture is now often known as Haipei, a unique ‘East Meets West’-style tradition, by which Wuyue and Western influences have merged over the past two centuries.

Haipei means “The ocean absorbs the flows of hundreds of rivers”, which characterizes Shanghai’s great diversity, from traditional Chinese and folk cultures, to the modern and futuristic.
